Planting hope for people living with spinal injury

A spinal injury can be a catastrophic and life-changing event. Patients often have little or no access to the outside world during their hospital stay.

Horatio’s Garden is a charity that creates and cares for beautiful accessible gardens in NHS Spinal Injury Centres. The gardens are stunning sanctuaries away from the clinical space for patients, their friends and families, creating an environment which becomes an integral part of their lives and care whilst spending many months in hospital.

We are supporting the appeal that has been launched to create a garden at The Midland Spinal Injury Centre In Oswestry. To discover more please visit the Oswestry Garden page on their website. It has several excellent videos.

Henlle Park Golf Club supports farmers in hardship

On June 2, Henlle Park in Oswestry is staging a golf challenge teams of four to raise money for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I).

R.A.B.I is a grant-making charity which helps farmers and farmworkers of all ages.  In 2016, R.A.B.I paid out grants of £2,035,702 to 1,357 families. That represents a big increase on the previous year, in which the charity gave out grants of around £1.89m.

In 2016, R.A.B.I helped people claim around £287k in state benefits and more than £450k was paid out to working farmers – a 67% rise in requests for help from working families.  2016 was a challenging year for many in the farming sector with bad weather, animal disease, fluctuating commodity prices and late CAP/RPA payments all contributing to the difficulties encountered by some.
Much of the funding comes from public donations, events arranged by county committees and support from businesses and community groups.

Henlle Park Golf Club has been a staunch supporter of R.A.B.I for many years and 2016’s annual golf day for the charity raised £2,500.  The event attracted 24 teams from England and Wales and Shropshire county committee members served up sausages in baps after the ninth hole of the fundraiser, now a popular fixture on the regional golfing calendar. Players also received bacon rolls and coffee on arrival and a two-course meal after the golf.

The sun shone for the golf day with a team from Ceredigion – some 102 miles away, triumphing on course. Agri Advisor Solicitors, who have offices in Pumsaint, Carmarthenshire and Welshpool was the main sponsor of the event and Rhodri Jones from Agri Advisor assisted with the presentation of awards.

Linda Jones, R.A.B.I regional manager for Wales, said: “We are looking forward to our golf day at Henlle Park.  They are wonderful hosts of this event and we greatly appreciate their loyal and committed support.”

Frankton Cricket Club

For the past 10 years or more Frankton Cricket Club has enjoyed holding its annual Golf day at Henlle Park Golf Club. This is a fund-raising event, and the quality of the course is such that persuading participants to enter a team year after year is easier than it might be.

The parkland course is one of the most scenic in Shropshire, while the golf facilities are second to none. The splendid new clubhouse complements the setting perfectly, the trees, sand and water lining the fairways are always a challenge, while the greens are excellent – firm and true. Finally, at the end of the round, the catering will always encourage us to come back again next year.

Captains’ Charity 2017

Most of us take for granted the ability to lift our head, to sit, to stand and to walk. However, for some children with developmental delays, cerebral palsy or other medical conditions, they require specialist therapy to help them achieve these skills.

We rely on donations to enable us to provide Targeted Training to children with cerebral palsy and other problems with movement control.  We are the only centre in the world providing this therapy.

By supporting The Movement Centre you can make a real difference.
